The University of Portsmouth is a leading modern university with a strong reputation for teaching and research. It has more than 21 000 students, with almost 4000 international and EU students from over 140 different countries and almost 2500 staff. The University of Portsmouth is a research active university with a range of internationally excellent areas such as the Institute of Biomedical and Bio-molecular Sciences, The Centre for European and International Research, the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation and the recently established Centre for Operational Research and Logistics. It is home to the first Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence and also has well developed strengths in applied research with Business, industry and the public and voluntary sectors.
The University of Portsmouth is in the top 2% of the world’s universities in the Times Higher Education’s world university rankings in 2016, and is one of the top 150 universities worldwide under 50 years old. It has a substantial record of research and teaching in Information Systems and Systems Thinking, both in the School of Computing and in the Portsmouth Business School.
The University has invested considerably into providing new and high quality lecture and teaching spaces available for conference use, including the Dennis Schiama Building, the new Future Technology Centre and Portland and Richmond Buildings. The venue offers flexible hosting accommodation with the ability to host conferences for 1000+ attendees.
Portsmouth has excellent transport links with regular train and coach links from London Heathrow, Gatwick and Southampton airports, as well as good road links. In addition, Portsmouth International Port is one of the busiest in the UK carrying around 2.2 million passengers a year.
Portsmouth is one of the main tourist destinations on the South Coast of the UK, drawing on its Naval heritage. The city is close to Portchester Castle and Southsea Forts, as well as Gunwharf Quays retail and entertainment complex, where the Spinnaker Tower provides stunning views over the South Downs and Isle of Wight.
